I could be completely wrong here, but it seems like there is something different about Toren’s eyes. When he’s looking at me or at Debi, it looks like he understands – like there is some sense of recognition. He seems… aware. But when he’s just looking around at random stuff, his eyes seem glossy and he seems lost. My guess is that this is, in fact, what is happening – Toren now recognizes Debi and me because we spend so much time with him and it is generally in positive ways. But all the other stuff he sees, it’s just stuff. There is no recognition of what that stuff is or why it should be important to him.
Does this sense of “awareness” in Toren’s eyes resonate with anyone else who has kids? Or am I just seeing things?
