Debi’s work needed to send her to Oregon for a project. Since Toren has not self-weaned, Debi didn’t want to leave him for a week away he likely would during that time and we’re not in a hurry to have that happen. However, while in Oregon she needed to be available all day for the project. So, I agreed to go along with her and, well, not work for a week. I was actually really excited, primarily because Oregon has something that Florida does not – mountains! That meant hiking. And since we have a child carrier for Toren, that meant Toren and I could do a lot of hiking. (I also feel bad not doing work, but I work to much, so, I’m taking a break, sort of…)
We flew out of Tampa really early (6:00 am, which meant getting up at 3:30) and made it to Portland around 11:30 (PT). We picked up our rental car and then drove into the city to meet up with some really good friends from Cincinnati who have since moved to Portland. We spent the afternoon with them, walking around the city, checking out their amazing apartment (right on the Willamette River), bashing with street preachers, and enjoying our friends’ company. They were very gracious hosts, especially considering Toren was all screwed up from the flights and the time zone shift, which we didn’t even realize until about 7:00 pm, which was 10:00 pm for Toren. He was so tired he was acting bizarre, so we had to call it an early night with our friends so we could drive down to Eugene, where Debi would be working during the week. We arrived around 9:30 (12:30 Tampa time), checked in, then crashed.
