Our destination this day was my sister Katie’s house in Purcellville, VA (just outside of DC). We left Durham fairly early and made our way north, arriving at her place mid-afternoon.
She was waiting for us with two of her kids, Lizzie and Brent, the youngest who are close to Toren’s age. The two older kids and her husband, Kevin, were on an adventure four-wheeling and came back the next morning. We basically just relaxed and chatted that afternoon, then Debi and Toren hung out with them that evening while I went to my first book talk. Taking a page out of my dad’s book, I decided to mix work and pleasure on the trip and set up four talks to various freethought groups around the country. The first was on the evening of June 7th at an individual’s house. Quite a number of people RSVP’d, but not quite all of them showed up. Even so, it was an excellent discussion about some of the topics in the book and I ended up staying there talking to various people until almost midnight. It was really cool.
