boundaries
I forget why, now, but I was going into Toren’s room the other day to get something and Toren was in there playing. When I walked in he said, “Get out of my room, Dad.” How many more times am I going to hear that phrase over the next 20 years?

2 year old logic
Here’s a rough approximation of the conversation I had with Toren a few days ago: Ryan: “What do babies drink?” Toren: “They drink milk from my mommy.” Ryan: “Do you drink milk from your mommy?” Toren: “No.” Ryan: “But Toren, you do still drink milk from mommy at night.” Toren: “No.” Ryan: “If you drink…

no sense of double meaning
Toren was playing with a balloon one day and was trying to manage letting the air out in a controlled fashion. He kept asking me to blow it up for him so he could let it out, but he wanted to let it out slowly. I finally asked him why he wanted to let it…

such a big kid
I’ve been out of town and haven’t had time to update the blog. Hopefully I’ll have some time to put up a series of posts over the next couple of weeks. To start, here’s a fun quote from Toren. He regularly talks about being a big kid these days. And whenever we point out that…

Toren is Spiderman
We’re learning that lots of kids Toren’s age and even older don’t like movies that are even a little scary or violent. Toren, on the other hand, loves them. The more violent the better!?! (Should we be worried?) He has a shirt and pajamas that we got from someone else that have Spiderman on them.…

jumping on couch
Now that we have a trampoline, Toren has really taken to jumping. He has even figured out how to jump and land on his bottom. However, he doesn’t just do it on the trampoline. Here he is jumping on our couch and landing on his bum:

hike at Cypress Creek Preserve
Toren and I went on a hike on Thanksgiving to a nature preserve here in Tampa called Cypress Creek Preserve. Parts of the hike were really pretty. Parts were less so. Here’s our route: The hike was 4.6 miles. I shot a couple videos of some of the prettier parts of the hike:

Toren racing me on his bike
Toren and I often race – whether it’s on foot or him on his bike and me on foot (to catch him, of course). Whenever he is ahead of me he’ll say, “My winning!” (i.e., “I’m winning.” He hasn’t worked out the difference between “me” and “I” yet.). Here he is “winning” on his bike:

Riding his (toy) four-wheeler
Our neighbor bought Toren a really cool toy set that included a truck, a motorcycle, and a four-wheeler. Toren really wanted to ride the four-wheeler, even though it is just a toy. So he improvised:

What did you do at daycare?
We’re not sure how this started, but we typically ask Toren what he did at daycare every day when we pick him up and he always responds the same way: by listing the names of some of the kids in his class: Mona (Ramona), Sammy, and Bobby. We finally caught on video here:
